John Greaney, the former president and business manager of New York’s Carpenters Union, pleaded guilty to 13 counts of fraud and corruption charges before New York City Federal Court.

Greaney was the leader of approximately 7,400 skilled workers within Local 608 of the Carpenters Union.

Between 1994 and 2009, Greaney and 6 other co-conspirators engaged in a racketeering conspiracy in efforts to defraud millions of dollars for themselves and maintain their control within the Union. Greaney and his co-defendants allegedly receive cash bribes in exchange for their consents in permitting the contractors to employ illegal immigrants, pay union member cash at below union rates, and avoid providing benefits to members.

If convicted under federal sentencing guidelines, Greaney faces a maximum penalty of 155 years in prison.
