New Jersey Couple Pleads Guilty To Immigration Fraud

by BCheung on July 26, 2010

Omeca Best and Jean Weche, a couple from the New York area, both pleaded guilty in Federal Court to making false statements on immigration applications and documents required by immigration laws and regulations.

Between May 2004 and August 2009, Best and Weche conspired in an immigration fraud scheme in efforts to defraud the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services to obtain legalization for illegal aliens.

During this time, Best was an employee of the Department of Justice Executive Office of Immigration Review. With the information she gained from her employment, specifically knowledge about amnesty being granted after the passing of the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, she and Weche recruited ineligible aliens and charged them $3000 each for helping them file fictitious applications to gain them legalization.

If convicted, Best and Weche each faces a maximum penalty of more than 10 years of imprisonment.
